at the beginning of her sixth year, c is an avid reader (she just finished one of the Little House on the Prairie books in a week), an adoring big sister to s (best cure to any of her grumpiness), and a promising violinist (only six or seven songs left in book one). she has an amazing attention span and problem-solving ability, does not particularly care about clothes, and still loves fruit and dislikes meat. outside of home, she's on the reserved side, and tends towards introversion. one of my favorite moments of a school day is her running off the bus into my arms, with a delighted 'mop!' (that's what she likes to call me =p) and a hug.
we've had some difficult times this past year too. without going into it, I learned firsthand how much our sin must grieve our heavenly Father. my human reactions of anger, disappointment and bewilderment all paled in comparison to the grief I felt watching her make one bad decision after the next, and even more at the believable lies that she invented so easily. I'm still not sure how we got out of that particular behavioral episode, but it was a sobering reminder of our need for transforming grace.
i think c still considers her 'real' life to be at home, and her friends to be those whose parents are our friends and who have been in our home. with a pang, I realize those days are numbered and that her school life will soon take on more and more importance. I doubt she'll ever have trouble learning anything she puts her mind to, but my highest priority with her is relationship. I pray that she will always have her eyes open to love her neighbor as herself, not an innate tendency with her, and that she will always love and trust us enough to come to us with her problems, her joys and her mistakes.
enough of my musings, on to the party! =) c requested chuck e cheese, so here we are:
