week 4 - farewell

we got back to taipei quite late thursday night, and friday was our last full day.  we decided to venture downtown and see Taipei 101, still one of the tallest buildings in the world.  too bad it wasn't very clear out and the commercialization was astounding (you literally can't get down without going through floors and floors of merchandise), but it was worth a visit.

in the evening, we had dinner with a good chunk of my mom's family.   once again, i was surprised by how little 10 years had changed everyone.   little l endeared herself to all by passing out the bookmark and chocolate gifts we'd brought, and it made for a good finale to the trip.

unwilling to say good bye to p and e and k just yet, we tried to get drinks (the fruity kind), but the shop was too crowded to sit (and the mystery smoothie turned out sour =p), so we went for a last walk through this underground mall.   alas, all good things must come to an end in this world, and with many hugs and tears in my eyes at least, we said farewell.

i hope that we can find a way to make this a regular trip.  i don't know how people handled it in the days before jet travel, even in the days before e-mail and internet.  the time difference makes it tricky with the kiddos, but thanks to skype and facebook, it's comforting to know that the girls will always have a special place in their hearts for their uncle and aunt and little cousin 8,000 miles away.
