the girls had their first Chinese lessons with a retired teacher. I waited in the living room with my dad and the younger kids that first time, but the next day, they didn't want to go back unless I came in. it was somewhat daunting the amount of vocabulary he had them repeat, without much context. we ended up taking a tour of their rooftop garden and walking to a nearby park with his granddaughter for part of the lesson.
